What is Compounding ?


A Compounded Medication is a drug that is specifically prepared for you, based off a prescription from your physician. A LifeCare Pharmacist will mix different ingredients together to create an individualized medication for you, in a specific strength and dosage form.

Just like a Recipe for your favorite food, a prescription for a compounded medication- will include several parts that must be thoroughly and carefully combined, depending on how the prescription will be used.

Our Compounding Professionals can Prepare

  • Unique dosage forms containing the ideal dose of medication for each individual.
  • Medications in dosage forms that are not commercially available, such as transdermal gels, troches, "chewies", and lollipops.
  • Medications free of problem-causing excipients such as dyes, sugar, lactose, or alcohol.
  • Combinations of various compatible medications into a single dosage form for easier administration and improved compliance.
  • Medications that are not commercially available.
